Scottish fish coprolite

Predating the Dinosaurs’ reign by some 105 million years, this ironstone coprolite dates from the Lower Carboniferous and is 350 million years old.

This prehistoric fish poo was found in Wardie Point, Lothian, Scotland.

Cut and polished to show off its interior, the high iron pyrite content in these specimens gives the coprolite a lovely golden outline.
