Very large fossilised wood section

A huge slice of polished fossilised wood from the Araucaria tree family (which includes the monkey puzzle). With well preserved tree rings and the exterior bark still clearly visible, this piece also has some lovely crystaline areas.

From Ancondromena, Western Madagascar.

Triassic, circa 248 million years old.
