Alectryonia Oyster Fossil

Regular price £14.00

Oyster fossil of the species Alectryonia.

With its distinctive zig-zag shell edge, it is thought that like modern oysters, Alectryonia would have lived in shallow coastal waters and been a filter feeder. The angled joints between the oyster's two shells worked as a great defence against debris entering the oyster and damaging its soft body.

From Tulear, Madagascar. Cretaceous, circa 95 million years old.
