Fossilised leaves from the extinct Calamite tree which have been preserved in an ironstone concretion. This two-part fossil shows both the fern and its 'negative'. The Calamite was a medium sized tree, growing to around 30 meters (100 feet).

Mazon Creek Fossil Beds, Braidwood, Illinois, USA. Carboniferous, circa 309 million years old.

Length: 7cm width: 4cm depth: 2cm
